    The Swedish Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (SVCA) has selected ChromoGenics Sweden AB as winner of the award ”Capital raising of the Year”.

    The award was announced at the association’s annual Business Angels Day in late October and the motivation read: “For a successful capital acquisition amounting to approx 20 MSEK that gave the company a strong international ownership structure. ChromoGenics’ board worked actively to safeguard the interests of early private investors when new owners were brought in.”

    ChromoGenics moves into new facilities
    The Company is now settled in the new production facilities located at Märstagatan 4 in Uppsala, Sweden. “We are now in the process of setting up a small-scale production plant meeting the technical requirements for producing electrochromic materials,”
    says Bengt Åkerström, who is the CEO of ChromoGenics.
    “To begin with we will use it to validate our processes and to prove to our investors and customers that we have a process that can be scaled-up.”

    ChromoGenics Sweden AB, the leading developer of electrochromic technology, today announced Volvo Technology Transfer and DuPont Ventures have become new investors in the Uppsala University spin-off company. Together with financing from Innovationsbron Uppsala, the regional subsidiary of Innovationsbron AB, ChromoGenics will look to further strengthen its leading position by building on the company’s unique and patented electrochromic technology to generate energy-savings-related revenues and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A pilot plant will be set up for production and new products will be developed in collaboration with market leading companies.

    Research and development transferred to Uppsala University.

    "Chromogenics" is introduced as the descriptive term for materials with variable optical properties.

  • 1988:
    Innovation Cup: First prize for best invention in Sweden goes to electrochromic windows (Granqvist and his team). First work on laminated electrochromic devices started.

  • 1986:
    Long term stable electrochromism discovered in nickel oxide.

  • 1984:
    First scientific publication about electrochromic technology for energy efficient windows; working with tungsten oxide. "Smart windows" introduced as descriptive term (Granqvist och Svensson).

  • 1983:
    Research about electrochromic technology for window applications starts at Chalmers Institute of Technology in Gothenburg (C G Granqvist & J S E M Svensson). No prior work within this field, domestically or internationally.
